Abstract

This research report presents shipment volume and value forecast and recent quarter review of the Greater Chinese netbook PC industry. The report includes shipment volume and value, ASP, manufacturer volume ranking, and shipment breakdowns by maker, customer, shipment destinations, and product mix. The content of this report is based on primary data obtained through interviews with netbook PC makers. The report finds that with growing end-market demand for netbook PCs, the alleviation of key component shortages, and brand-name vendors' rollouts of new netbook models in the fourth quarter, Greater Chinese netbook PC shipment volume reached 5.23 million units in the fourth quarter of 2008, up 33.3% sequentially. In the first quarter of 2009, 8.9-inch product shipment volume is expected to decrease, to be replaced by 10-inch product shipments. However, as 10-inch product shipments are not expected to completely offset the decline in 8.9-inch shipments, Greater Chinese netbook PC shipment volume is forecasted to see a sequential decline in the first quarter of 2009.
